Dear Parishioners,
I am writing to let you know about an upcoming change to our weekday Mass schedule, which will take effect on Monday, November 2.
At this time, I am serving our parish communities without a permanent parochial vicar or associate pastor. While I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to minister among you, the present schedule of three daily Masses is no longer sustainable for one priest. Adjusting the weekday schedule will allow me to give more time and energy to the pastoral needs of our parishioners--celebrating the sacraments, visiting the sick, meeting with families, preparing for liturgies, attending to parish responsibilities, and being available when you need a priest. It will also make it possible for me to have an appropriate weekly day of rest.
Beginning November 2, our weekday Mass schedule will be as follows:
| Monday: | OLMM Parish at 6:45 AM and 9:00 AM |
| Tuesday: | St. Theresa Parish at 8 :30 AM |
| Wednesday: | OLMM Parish at 9:00 AM |
| Thursday: | St. Theresa Parish at 8:30 AM |
| Friday: | OLMM Parish at 6:45 AM |
| 1st Saturday of the Month: | St. Theresa Parish at 8:30 AM (Confessions to follow) |
In the weeks following the implementation of this new schedule, I will also evaluate our opportunities for Eucharistic Adoration and other devotional practices. Once I have a clearer sense of what can be offered faithfully and consistently, I will communicate any decisions regarding Adoration and parish devotions.
There may be times-especially during vacations, retreats, illness, or other absences-when I am unable to secure a priest to assist. If that occurs, weekday Masses may need to be canceled. In those circumstances, I encourage you to attend Mass at one of the neighboring parishes whenever possible.
This is not a change I had hoped to make. I recognize that daily Mass is an important source of grace, strength, and community for many parishioners. However, I cannot continue the schedule as it has been and serve our parish communities well over the long tem. My hope is that this revised schedule will help me continue to minister to you with the care, presence, and energy that you deserve.
I also wish to thank Fr. Jack O'Brien, who has been a staple in our community for many years and has served us so well, especially whenever there was a need. He will continue to be present and will offer his priestly ministry whenever he can.
In addition, Fr. Gerry Dion will continue to assist our communities when he is able. Obviously, both of these priests are retired yet offer valuable service in our parishes and beyond. Please thank them for their ministry among us.
In closing, If the Bishop is able to assign another priest to assist us in the future, we can certainly revisit the weekday Mass schedule at that time.
Thank you for your understanding, patience, prayers, and continued support. Please know of my deep gratitude for you and of my prayers for all of our parish families.
Sincerely in Christ,
Fr. Gary
Pastor
